This notice explains how we handle your personal data when you subscribe to the Venture Funded Jobs newsletter — our free weekly digest and our paid daily edition. If we launch other services later, we'll provide separate or updated information.
When you subscribe: your email address (required), and — only if you choose to provide them — your professional function and geography (optional). These optional fields are self-declared; we don't enrich or infer them, and we don't collect any special-category data.
When you use the newsletter: engagement data, such as whether an email was opened or a link clicked.
If you take a free sample or subscribe to the paid daily: your billing email, payment details, and subscription status, handled through our payment provider.
How you found us: if you arrive via a tagged link or a recommendation, we record that source.
To send you the newsletter you signed up for (free digest and/or paid daily) — on the basis of your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), together with Article 11.7 of the Dutch Telecommunications Act, which governs commercial email. You can withdraw this consent at any time (see section 8).
To tailor which jobs you see, using the optional function and geography you provide — on the basis of our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)) in making the newsletter relevant and low-noise, which aligns with your own interest in a useful digest. We use these fields only to tailor the newsletter you already asked for, and you can edit them, remove them, or object to this use at any time.
To send the follow-up emails after a free sample of the paid daily — these previews are part of what you opt into when you request a sample, and you can unsubscribe from them at any time.
To process payments for the paid daily — to perform our contract with you (Article 6(1)(b)).
To keep tax and invoice records — because we're legally required to (Article 6(1)(c)); Dutch tax law requires us to retain these for seven years.
To honour your unsubscribe — we keep a minimal record that you unsubscribed so we don't email you again.
The free digest is supported by occasional, clearly-labelled sponsorships. These are shown to all readers, are not targeted using your data, and we do not share your data with advertisers.
Beehiiv, Inc. — our newsletter platform, which processes your data on our behalf to deliver the newsletter and manage subscriptions.
Stripe — our payment provider (through Beehiiv's integration), which processes your payment data to handle subscriptions. Stripe also acts as an independent controller for its own fraud-prevention and regulatory purposes.
Recommended newsletters — if you choose to opt into another publication we recommend at signup, your email is shared with that publication so it can add you. Those publications are independent controllers responsible for their own use of your data. We only ever share what you actively opt into.
We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with anyone else except as needed to run the newsletter or where the law requires. We also use service providers for hosting, our domain, and internal operations; a full list is available on request.
Beehiiv is based in the United States and stores data there. Beehiiv is not certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, so we protect transfers to it using the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, supported by Beehiiv's transfer impact assessment. Stripe's US transfers are covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. You can ask us for more detail on these safeguards.
While you're subscribed: for as long as you remain subscribed.
After you unsubscribe: we delete your engagement and profile data within about six months, but keep a minimal suppression record — so we don't contact you again — indefinitely.
Payment and invoice records: seven years, as required by Dutch tax law.
Under the GDPR you have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, receive a copy in a portable format, and withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it — every email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can manage your preferences at any time. To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We'll respond within one month.
If you have concerns about how we handle your data, please contact us first so we can help. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).
We may update this notice from time to time. We'll post the updated version with a new date and tell you about any significant changes.
